  1. Bikers might like to ride out to Boston Harbor Marina. Slightly hilly road out there but nice bike lanes and you can enjoy a microbrew while you take in the view of the boats and Olympic mountains.

  3. I’m really glad you wrote about this. I’ve never thought about Olympia before but, as I’ve already done Seattle, it’s great to know there’s another alternative. Do you happen to know if the breweries also do ciders?

  4. Very thorough article – looks like a beautiful coastal town! I love that you had a whole section on the weather as that is something that I would be thinking about with a trip to Washington!

  5. If I ever go back to the States, it will be to Washington: I want to see hip Portland, grungie Seattle (yap, I’m old) and now Olympia, too! I have this feeling this will be totally my scene.

  6. This is a great guide! I haven’t made it to anywhere in the pacific northwest yet, but Olympia looks like a great place to go

  7. I agree about that coffee, I’d sign up for one of those classes too. And the beer and bike store. Funny thing is, here in the UK, you can get stopped for drinking and riding. When in Olympia :).

  8. We’ve never been to Washington State, but would love to visit someday. The Billy Frank Jr Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge sounds really interesting, as well as the Capitol Lake!

  9. I went to the Pacific NW a few years ago and was amazed by how similar I found it to New Zealand (right down to the same type of coffee culture!). How was the “cupping class” overall? Worth doing?

  10. Great post! I have a good friend who lives in Portland! Besides wanting to visit her I never really thought of what to see or do near there! 2 hours to Washington is not long at all! The fact that its the best beer you’ve ever tasted certainly has me sold ! lol
