And we don’t just mean the most luxurious. Some nights we splurged on dreamy lagoon views, and other nights we found charming family-run pensions.
After island hopping across Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine, and Tikehau, and staying everywhere from local pensions to overwater bungalows, we’ve learned what’s truly worth your money (and what isn’t). Tahiti Accommodations
A Tomo Mai Homestay
When flying in and out of French Polynesia, you will have to go through Tahiti to get to the other islands, and the way most international flights work, you must likely will have to stay in Tahiti for a night. So finding something close to the airport is a great choice.
We’ve actually stayed here twice, both times when we landed in Tahiti, because Ingrid, the host, is great! There are 3 rooms, right on her property, that are nice and clean, and perfect for an overnight stay. She will provide transportation to and from the airport (at any time) for a small fee, which is super convenient.

Hilton Hotel Tahiti
The Hilton is a luxury hotel with all the extra amenities, with gorgeous sea views and balconies overlooking the water, and a giant pool area with a swim-up bar. Food and drinks are a little more expensive because it is a Hilton. But it is conveniently located right across the street from a big shopping center. This hotel is near the airport, but also close to the ferry terminal.

Tehei Beach House
If you plan to stay in Tahiti for a few nights, we recommend staying a little further from the airport, and this private home is in Puna’auia, right near the black sand beaches of Tahiti. We loved that it was away from the hustle and bustle of the Tahiti airport, but was still close.

Tiki Hotel
The Tiki Hotel is located at the Lycée Hôtelier de Tahiti, and is a training hotel for the school, but it’s set up on the hill in a nice, quiet area, with views of the ocean. It’s 5 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from downtown Papeete. The hotel itself is pretty basic, and doesn’t have much around it, but if you’re simply looking for a place for a night before your next flight, this is a good, inexpensive option.

Bora Bora Accommodations
Intercontinental Bora Bora Le Moana
One of the least expensive overwater bungalows in Bora Bora, but still magnificent. This resort is located on the main island, which means it’s easy to get around and explore the island. Gorgeous overwater bungalows with incredible views of the lagoon. By staying at this resort, you have access to the sister resort Intercontinental Bora Bora Thalasso Resort.

Matira house
If you’re looking for a budget option on Bora Bora, Matira House is a great option! It’s a small room, but close to Matira Beach, the best beach on Bora Bora. While it is a great budget option, it it still a little overpriced for what you get, however, you are on Bora Bora after all!

Moorea Accomodations
Linareva Moorea Beach Resort
This small bed and breakfast is located in a quiet area, with mountain views and friendly staff. It is right on the water, and there is a dock for easy access to swim with the reef sharks! The rooms are spacious with their own kitchenettes. We loved the breakfast brought to us in the morning on our patio!

Enoha Lodge
A great beachfront location on the west side of Moorea, with stunning views in a quiet neighborhood. Has a great private terrace and only a few steps to the beach, where you can see sting rays and reef sharks. Included in your stay is access to a BBQ and kayaks.

Huahine Accommodations
Bungalow MIRETA
A spacious 2 bedroom house only 5 minutes from the airport, in a quiet neighborhood. We loved that it was close to the main town, Fare. The host was super friendly and accommodating. Breakfast and airport transfers were included as well. Because it’s close to Fare, you can walk to the downtown and the beach.

The Fare Tchanque
A 1 bedroom bungalow on the south part of Huahine Nui, overlooking Maroe Bay. In a quiet area, with a kitchen and gorgeous sea-views. Located outside of the main town, so you will want to rent a car.

Tikehau Accommodations
Tikehau Cozy Lodge
An adorable little studio right on the beautiful Tikehau lagoon. This is not a fancy hotel, but it has all the Polynesian style and culture, and you can’t beat the view! The room has a kitchenette, a deck, and is just steps to the beach. Bikes are available for use as well.
