Tahiti is the main island of French Polynesia, and the only airport with International arrivals and departures. Because of that many people arriving to French Polynesia have to stay a day before or after arriving. We found the Hilton Hotel Tahiti to be the best spot for our last night in French Polynesia before flying back to the United States
Refurbished and reopened in December 2021, the Hilton Hotel Tahiti is the perfect stay for an overnight layover in Papeete, or a longer time on the island of Tahiti.
The Hilton Hotel Tahiti was originally built in 1960 as Hotel Tahiti, and now it’s been completely renovated. The hotel emphasizes open areas and boosts wonderful ocean views,
Located close to the airport and the ferry terminal, it’s in a great location for exploring the downtown Papeete area, which includes the market. The main attraction though might be the pool. The Hilton Papeete has the island’s largest pool, overlooking the ocean and the island of Moorea.
Restaurants and Bars
There is plenty of food options as there are 6 restaurants and bars. The restaurants options include an Italian bistro, sushi bar, and a fish and steakhouse, and an international breakfast buffet. You will find a pool bar including swim-up and a bar in the lounge, perfect for when you arrive.
The pool is definitely a fan favorite at the Hilton Hotel Tahiti. The pool is the largest pool on the island and has great views overlooking the ocean. You can even see Moorea on a clear day. There are lots of lounge chairs surrounding the pool, and 6 cabanas that you can rent for the day. There is a swim-up bar where you can get drinks and snacks.
The Hilton Hotel Tahiti has 200 rooms, all very spacious. You can choose from a garden view or ocean view. The garden view we had was very private. The rooms are huge, with a king bed, a sofa, mini-fridge, and a walk-in shower.
Late Check-Out and Early Check-In Accommodation
We had a late flight home to the US, so we inquired about a late checkout. Because of their popularity, getting late check-out or early arrival seems to be non-existent. However, they are willing to hold your bags, while you use the hotel space. We were able to lay by the pool, shower, and then spend some time in the lobby doing some work, before we left. It worked perfect for us!
