Destination Wedding at Secrets Wild Orchid
We originally were planning a big wedding in our home town of Portland, Oregon. After almost a year of planning and putting a few deposits down, we came to the conclusion that a big wedding was just not our style. We had over 200 people on the guest list, and if you have ever planned a wedding before, that equals some big $$$$! We sat back and had a discussion and realized that our wedding day was not for anyone but ourselves, so we decided to do a destination wedding. And whoever wanted to make the trip was more than welcome to come.
Tarah is a big planner, and Tip is more of a go with the flow and see what happens. So after we came to the conclusion that we would drop all the plans we had made for the previous year, it was time for her to start planning our destination wedding. I will add in that it was the best decision we ever made, traditional weddings are just so stressful and the destination wedding process was so much easier.
We looked at several places including, Cabo, Cancun, St. Martens, Bahamas, Fiji etc… Until one night I randomly blurted out let’s do Jamaica! I have no specific reason for wanting to go there except for maybe the fact that I love “Cool Runnings” and the Jamaican accent is so fun to imitate. After that night, Tarah focused her efforts fully on Jamaica and we never looked back. We settled on the Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay Jamaica.
And oh boy, did we make a great choice. The service was amazing, and Jamaicans are so nice and genuine. We heard from several people when we told them that we were going to Jamaica, “Watch out its dangerous there”. First off there are dangerous parts in every country. Just be respectful and weary of your surroundings while traveling and you will be fine wherever you go. We never once felt in danger, and yes we did leave the resort and explore other parts of Jamaica.
Anyways, our wedding was amazing. Our wedding planner Simone took care of everything for us. All of the main details were taken care of and all we needed to do was show up, and say “I Will”.
The weather could not have been any better, well actually a little bit cooler would have been nice, it was 85 and humid in the beginning of December. A million words couldn’t describe our wedding experience as well as these pictures and videos.
It’s safe to say that Jamaica is high on our list for a return trip, and we will be staying at Secrets Resorts whenever there is one available.
