The beginning of our time at the Amalfi Coast did not start off well because it seemed as if the travel were not on our side. It all began when we arrived in Naples via plane from Santorini, took the train from Naples to Salerno where we were going hop onto the ferry to the Amalfi Coast. The distance to walk from the train station to the ferry terminal is really not THAT far, except when you take the long way out of the train station (like we did) and had a few hundred meters extra to the walk. By the time, we got to the end of the ferry dock where the Travelmar tickets were, we were told there would be no ferries going out that day! Our options were then bus or taxi. We had to then backtrack another 400 meters back to the end of the ferry dock, and instead of walking further to the bus station, we ended our misery and decided to splurge on a taxi. Needless to say, we couldn’t wait to get to Hotel Marmorata. It took an hour to get there via taxi from Salerno, but once we got out of the taxi, we were instantly in awe.
Location:
Hotel Marmorata is located in the inlet of Ravello. Along the coastline between Minori and Amalfi, sits a beautfiul 4-star hotel in Hotel Marmorata. Only 5 kilometers from Amalfi, its close enough for a day of exploring the bigger town, but far enough to be its own oasis. Amazing views of the water surround you throughout the hotel. With sea-view rooms and a terrace off the restaurant, you simply don’t want to leave. The hotel is built on a rocky cliff, it has the perfect blend of privacy, intimacy, and views. This hotel is close enough to the popular towns along the Amalfi Coast, without the crowds. At the hotel, you feel like you’re an hour away from the craziness of the crowds, while being only a few minutes to the next town, if you are wanting to find some busyness to entertain yourself.
History:
The hotel was created in 1983 by transforming an ancient paper mill that belonged to the Camera d’Afflitto family, who manage the hotel today. From the minute you walk in, the hotel is charming. The décor is beautiful and there still remain quirky features such as porthole windows, and an old telephone booth in the lobby. The décor is perfectly aligned to match the loction with nautical décor.

The rooms:
Our room was small, but beautifully decorated, with a gorgeous sea view! The rooms, ranging from singles to family-size, have tile floors and spare furnishings. Ranging from courtyard to sea-view rooms, and rooms perfect for kids or for romantic occasions, Hotel Marmorata has all the options. We only stayed here for one night, and as much as we wish we had longer at this wonderful hotel, we probably wouldn’t have explored any of the Amalfi coast as this place is hard to leave! If (When) we ever come back to the Amalfi Coast, we will definitely be revisiting Hotel Marmorata as the beauty and the service were excellent.
The food:
The restaurant, “L’antica Cartiera” is right along the cliff, overlooking the sea. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner in the terrace overlooking the sea. There is plenty of traditional pasta and fresh fish. We had some delicious wine throughout our stay. The service throughout the hotel was amazing. From the waiters at dinner, to the staff at the front desk, they went above and beyond our expectiatons.
Our Favorite Amenities:
A gorgeous, saltwater swimming pool right along the sea, with chairs and umbrellas are available to all guests. From the pool, there are sun decks with access to the sea. Sitting by the deep blue sea, listening to the waves come crashing in calming noise that cannot be replicated. If you don’t want to leave your amazing room, room service is available at certain times, plus there is a minibar to quench your thirst. While Hotel Marmorata is just a little outside of Amalfi, there is a complimentary shuttle service to and from Amalfi that runs 3x/day. If those times don’t work, the bus is super fast and convenient, and stops right outside the hotel.
Additional amenities:
- Wonderful breakfast in the terrace overlooking the sea
- Fitness area open from 8:30am-10pm overlooking the sea
- Massage, spa services, and personal trainer services available
- Welcoming and friendly staff
Hotel Marmorata is an amazing luxury hotel located right outside the town of Amalfi. With quick access to the other towns along the Amalfi Coast, its in the perfect location to have some privacy. If you want a comfortable place to sleep, privacy with great views, and a friendly staff, then this hotel is for you! Its a great price for all the great amenities, and we didn’t want to leave!
